Table View, Blouberg, Bloubergstrand, Parklands, Sunningdale, Milnerton, Century City, Melkbosstrand and out to Atlantis. This is the windiest catering area in greater Cape Town and planning for that is most of the job.
The wind is the whole brief
From about October to March the south-easter comes across this coast with nothing to break it. A spit fire in an open Blouberg or Melkbosstrand garden will run hot on the windward side and cool on the other, and the meat cooks unevenly if nobody is managing it. That is a solved problem, but only if it is planned rather than discovered at two o’clock.
- We bring a wind shelter to coastal bookings as standard, not on request.
- The spit goes on the lee side of the house, in a courtyard, or behind a boundary wall — not in the middle of the lawn because that is where the marquee is.
- Sand. On beachfront plots the carving station goes on a hard surface and the food stays covered until it is served.
- We allow extra time on exposed sites. A windy cook is a longer cook.
Inland of the N7 — Parklands, Sunningdale, parts of Century City — it is markedly calmer and behaves like an ordinary suburban booking.

Places people mix up
Table View, Blouberg and Bloubergstrand are three different places, not one area, and the wind exposure differs sharply between them. Atlantis and Mamre are about twenty minutes further north again.

Can you cater in Blouberg when the wind is up?
Yes. Tell us the site is exposed when you book so we arrive with shelter and extra time. A south-easter does not stop the cook, it changes the setup.
Do you travel to Melkbosstrand and Atlantis?
Yes, both are covered. Melkbosstrand is inside the included band; Atlantis sits at the edge of it and we will confirm travel on the quote rather than after.
What does a West Coast booking cost?

Is a beachfront spit braai a bad idea?
No, but it is a planned one. Wind shelter, a hard surface for carving and covered food. Done properly it is the best setting we cook in.
