Spit Braai Catering in the Cape Winelands
Stellenbosch, Paarl, Franschhoek and Wellington. Wine-estate weddings where the two questions that actually decide the booking - the venue fire-season conditions and whether it runs a preferred-supplier list - get dealt with up front rather than a fortnight before the date. R180 a head, chef included.

Spit braai catering in the Cape Winelands and the Boland
Stellenbosch, Paarl, Franschhoek and Wellington are our most common wedding bookings, and they are a genuinely different job from a suburban garden party — not harder, but it needs planning that a Durbanville braai does not.
Three things that are specific to the Winelands
1. Fire season is a real constraint, not a formality
The Western Cape fire season runs roughly December to April, and it lands exactly on peak wedding season. Many wine estates restrict or prohibit open fires during high-risk periods, and some will require the fire to be a set distance from vines and thatch. Ask your venue about their fire policy before you book the catering, not after. If open coals are not permitted on the date, we can work with a contained setup — but we need to know in advance.
2. Estates often have supplier lists
A good number of Stellenbosch and Franschhoek estates run a preferred or approved caterer list, and some charge an outside-caterer fee. That is a venue commercial decision, not a quality judgement, but it affects your budget. Find out early — it is the single most common reason a Winelands booking falls over late.
3. Distance changes the timeline, not the price
Locals call this the Boland, and a Boland spit braai has its own logistics — the venues are further apart than anywhere else we cook, and the estate rules are stricter. Travel is included to about 60km, which covers Stellenbosch, Paarl and most of Franschhoek. What it does change is timing: the chef leaves earlier, and the pack-down finishes later. For a late Franschhoek reception that means a genuinely long day, which is why we do not double-book a chef across two Winelands events on the same date.
Harvest season
February to April is harvest. Working estates are busy, access roads carry tractor traffic, and some venues limit functions during picking. It does not stop anything, but if your date falls in that window, confirm access arrangements with the venue.
Standard R180 per person — see packages and prices, with the menu itself on the spit braai menu. Beyond about 60km we quote travel openly rather than folding it in.
Work out what your spit braai costs
R9 00050 guests × R180 a head, all in — chef, equipment, cooking, carving and clear-up included.
An estimate, not a quote — travel beyond about 60km and extra sides are quoted separately. Nothing is sent until you tap through.
Every area we cook in
If your area, farm or estate is on this list, travel is included and the rate is the same R180 a head. Estate bookings have two questions to settle first — see below.
Places people mix up
Klapmuts, Pniel and Kylemore sit between Stellenbosch and Paarl and belong to neither. Franschhoek is its own valley, roughly half an hour past Stellenbosch rather than a suburb of it, and Wellington is a separate town north of Paarl.
Nothing matches that. We may still cover it — send us the address and we will tell you straight away.
Suburbs and neighbourhoods
Level ground and vehicle access. Inland it is calmer than the coast, and the cook is more predictable for it.

Winelands questions
Will my estate allow an open-coal spit?
Yes, most do, with conditions on placement and distance from vines and thatch. During high fire-risk periods some will not. Ask the venue directly — their answer decides the setup.
Is there a travel charge to Franschhoek?
No, not inside about 60km, which Franschhoek is. Further out we quote it separately and openly.
Can you work with a venue's approved-caterer requirement?
Yes, where the venue is willing to add us. If it requires an approved caterer and we are not on the list, that is their call to make. Ask them whether they will consider an outside caterer and what the fee is before you commit to a date.
